Jira

Connect Alloy with Jira to keep prototypes linked to epics and always up to date.

Sync Alloy prototypes with Jira epics so design work stays attached to tasks and always up to date. Prototypes can also be pushed to Jira to create new epics, which are then automatically linked back to the prototype.

Prerequisites

  • Jira workspace admin (or permission to install apps)
  • Alloy workspace admin

Setup

To connect Jira with Alloy:

  1. In Alloy, go to Settings → Integrations → Jira.
  2. Click Connect Jira and authorize the Alloy app.
  3. Choose your Jira workspace and confirm permissions.
  4. Map your Alloy projects to the correct Jira boards or projects (e.g., Alloy “App” → Jira “Core Platform Project”).
  5. Enable previews (recommended) so prototypes render inside Jira issues.
  6. Choose your defaults:
    • Auto-link new prototypes to referenced epics (on/off)
    • Sync comments (on/off)
  7. Click Save & Test to verify the connection.

Using Jira with Alloy

  • Attach a prototype: From a prototype in Alloy, click Attach → Jira, search for the relevant epic, then attach.
  • Keep work in sync: Updates in Alloy automatically reflect in the Jira attachment preview (if enabled).
  • Create a new epic: From a prototype, select Share → Create Jira Epic, add a title/description, and submit.

Uninstalling or disconnecting

  • In Alloy: Settings → Integrations → Jira → Disconnect.
  • In Jira: remove the Alloy app from your admin console if needed.

Tips

  • Use consistent naming conventions (e.g., [Feature] Checkout – v2) so prototypes are easier to find in Jira.
  • Keep Auto-link ON during sprint planning to streamline your workflow.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing boards/projects? Make sure you authorized the correct Jira workspace.
  • Previews not rendering? Re-enable previews in Alloy → Jira settings and reattach the prototype.
