Import from other tools

Alloy can import designs from prototyping and design tools like Figma, Bolt, v0 and Lovable by capturing them as starting points for further prototyping. The import process works the same as capturing existing web applications—use the Alloy browser extension for authenticated projects or provide a public link for published designs. Alloy captures one page at a time and preserves visual styling, though you may need to recreate complex interactions after importing.

What is importing?

Importing from other tools allows you to migrate your projects from other prototyping and design software into Alloy. The process is the largely the same as capturing existing web applications.

Supported tools

Alloy can capture anything your browser can render. We've made some optimizations to get better results from the following tools:

  • Bolt
  • Figma
  • Lovable
  • Magic Patterns
  • Onlook
  • Subframe
  • v0

Alloy's browser extension is the most accurate way to import your design projects from other tools. The extension allows you to capture pages that require authentication to view, like your projects in Figma or your prototypes in Lovable.

Note: Alloy will capture anything that appears in the browser's viewport. Preview your project in a separate window before copying the URL to prevent capturing unwanted elements:

  • For prototyping tools like Bolt, Lovable, Magic Patterns and v0, look for an option to open the preview in a new tab or window—it is usually located in the prototype's address bar in the top navigation.
  • In Figma, view your prototype in presentation mode.

To import designs by capturing:

  1. Add the Alloy extension to your browser.
  2. Navigate to the existing project, prototype, or design preview you want to capture.
  3. Preview the project in a new tab or separate window. See note above.
  4. Select the Alloy extension, then select Capture. A new tab opens with your capture, ready to prototype by prompting Alloy in the chat box.

If you've published your project so that it is publicly visible, you can also capture it by giving Alloy the public link. This is useful if you do not have permission to add the Alloy browser extension.

To import designs via public link:

  1. Sign into the Alloy app.
  2. From the Prototypes page, select the Public link option.
  3. Paste a publicly-accessible link to the experience you want to capture (see note above) and select Send. A new tab opens with your capture, ready to prototype by prompting Alloy in the chat box.

Tips for importing

  • Preview your project in a separate window. Otherwise, Alloy may capture the chrome from the tool you're importing from.
  • Ensure your project has fully loaded and rendered before capturing.
  • You may need to recreate interactions after importing. Preview and check your prototype once its captured in Alloy.
  • Alloy will capture one page at a time. If you want to import a multi-page app, capture each page individually before prototyping.
