Linear
Connect Alloy with Linear to keep prototypes linked to tasks, projects, and initiatives.
Sync Alloy prototypes with Linear issues so design work stays attached to tasks and always up to date. Prototypes can also be pushed to Linear to create projects or initiatives, which are then automatically linked back to the prototype.
Prerequisites
- Linear workspace admin (or permission to install apps)
- Alloy workspace admin
Setup
To connect Linear with Alloy:
- In Alloy, go to Settings → Integrations → Linear.
- Click Connect Linear and authorize the Alloy app.
- Choose your Linear workspace and confirm permissions.
- Map your Alloy projects to the correct Linear teams (e.g., Alloy “App” → Linear “Core App Team”).
- Enable previews (recommended) so prototypes render inside Linear issues.
- Choose your defaults:
- Auto-link new prototypes to referenced issues (on/off)
- Sync comments (on/off)
- Click Save & Test to verify the connection.
Using Linear with Alloy
- Attach a prototype: From a prototype in Alloy, click Attach → Linear, search for the issue, then attach.
- Keep work in sync: Updates in Alloy automatically reflect in the Linear attachment preview (if enabled).
- Create a new issue: From a prototype, select Share → Create Linear Issue, add a title/description, and submit.
Uninstalling or disconnecting
- In Alloy: Settings → Integrations → Linear → Disconnect.
- In Linear: remove the Alloy app from your admin console if needed.
Tips
- Use consistent naming conventions (e.g., [Feature] Checkout – v2) to make prototypes easier to find in Linear.
- Keep Auto-link ON during sprint planning for a faster workflow.
Troubleshooting
- Missing teams/projects? Make sure you authorized the correct Linear workspace.
- Previews not rendering? Re-enable previews in Alloy → Linear settings and reattach the prototype.
